The Middletown Historical Society hosts the annual Olde-Tyme Peach festival, a tradition started in 1993. This community festival is to increase awareness of the important role peaches played in the formation of present day Middletown while providing a free and enjoyable family outing. The Middletown Peach Festival attracts thousands of individuals and families every year.
In the mid-19th century, the peach industry had a significant effect on the economy of Middletown. Delaware peaches were harvested and sold in markets in Philadelphia, Boston, and New York. By 1850, Middletown became the center of the peach industry in Delaware.
